Prepare a business website

A business website starts with the decision it should help visitors make. This method turns scattered ideas into a usable scope.

This guide helps you choose a next step.

Objectives, audiences, content, evidence, features and measurement: prepare a useful business website before choosing its design or technology.

Start with the decisions the site should support

List the people the site needs to help and the next step expected from each group. An enquiry, quote request, phone call or service review requires different information. This starting point prevents an arbitrary page count from driving the project.

Gather the available content

Inventory offers, contact details, visuals, documents, sales answers and legal constraints. Mark what is confirmed, what needs rewriting and what is missing. Content gaps identified early cost less than blockers discovered immediately before launch.

Organise evidence

For every promise, look for publishable evidence: a method, delivery, screenshot, source, authorised result or clearly explained limitation. Internal work remains useful when it is described accurately. A client quote or figure should only be published with a verifiable origin and permission.

Define the functional scope

Forms, calendars, customer areas, catalogues, languages, CRM connections and measurement should serve a real use. Separate launch requirements from later improvements. This distinction makes budget, timeline and responsibilities easier to scope.

Prepare measurement

Decide before launch what counts as a useful action: a call, email, received form or download. Document the tools and events used so that the same conversion is not counted twice across platforms.
